King's Ely School

King’s Ely is a prestigious independent day-and-boarding school located in the heart of Ely, Cambridgeshire. The co-educational school caters for children as young as two, all the way up to eighteen, from nursery to sixth form.
As one of the oldest schools in the country, and a renowned piece of history, we are proud to maintain the school's extensive timber play areas.
Earlier this year, after meetings to discuss the playground's maintenance needs, the OLP team got to work on a series of renovations over two of the King’s Ely playgrounds. The team replaced timbers and ropes, installed post feet as well as making some minor surfacing repairs. You can read more about the repairs and check out some before and after pictures below.
Multiplay Unit
We installed various new timbers on the Mutiplay Unit, including the wooden picket fences around the two top platforms, and some beams along the timber bridge. We replaced the beams with pressure treated redwood with a life expectancy of 15 years.
Trim Trail Stations
The larger set of swinging steps also needed new ropes, which we custom made in our warehouse from durable steel corded rope.

Playground Furniture
We replaced sections of the wooden furniture that had some damaged edges. Damaged edges can become sharp or splinter which could cause an injury, the damage can also allow water into the wood which speeds up rot.
OLP also laid the rubber mulch to the to the playarea as part of a much larger building project undertaken by Mixbrow construction.
